I'm a former head of English in secondary school and now tutor AP English Literature online for students across the UK and Europe. Shakespeare, gothic fiction and modern poetry are my favourite areas to teach. I focus on close reading, planning argumentative essays and using criticism sensibly, not as decoration. Many of my tutees are applying to US universities, so we also pace the year around AP exam dates and school commitments.

I'm based in Bristol and split my time between teaching English Literature at a sixth-form college and tutoring AP Lit online. I enjoy helping students unpack tricky passages, especially in 19th-century novels and modern drama. Lessons often start from a passage and build out to themes, context and essay planning. I’ve marked a lot of mock scripts over the years, so I’m very practical about what earns marks and what wastes time.

We talk a lot about narrative voice, symbolism and how to quote effectively without overloading paragraphs.
